Ryan Gustafson: FROSH Head Coach
Coach Gustafson is entering his 14th season as a football coach for the Capistrano Valley Football Program and his 13th year of teaching for Capistrano Valley High School.
He grew up in Mission Viejo and is an alumnus of CVHS class of 98′. After graduating from Capistrano Valley High school he went on to the University if La Verne where he played collegiate football and earned a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Movement and Sports Science. From there he went on to attend National University where he completed his teaching credential program.
In addition to coaching football, Coach Gustafson is also the head varsity coach for Girls Lacrosse, leading his team to the playoffs the last six seasons. Coach Gustafson earned OC Register Coach of the Year for 2014 leading the Cougars to a 17-1 record.
Finally, Coach Gustafson currently resides in Rancho Santa Margarita with his loving and supportive wife Shannon and their two beautiful sons Jackson and Wesley.

Grant Voss: Freshmen Assistant
Grant Voss is very excited to start his 4th season as a Capo football coach. Being a four year cougar, Grant understands the capo tradition very well and looks forward to sharing and teaching the tradition. He also understands the techniques that are going to be used to help the incoming athletes to reach their potential. Overall Grant Voss is looking forward to continuing his time at capo, in the sport he loves along with passing down his legacy to athletes, giving them the opportunity to experience the same experiences he did.
Kevin Joyce: Freshmen Assistant
Kevin Joyce, a 2015 CVHS graduate, begins his first year on the coaching staff for the freshmen football team. Kevin was a four-year starter on the offensive line throughout all levels, and was a (2) year starter on the varsity offensive line. During his Capo high school football career, Kevin was honored with several awards: JV Special Teams Player of the Year, a two-time Varsity Offensive Lineman of the Year, and both Sea View League Honorable Mention in his junior year and Sea View League Second Team in his senior year. Kevin led the offensive line in his senior year to the CIF Semi-finals. Kevin also played three years on Capo’s baseball team. Last season, Kevin played football at Saddleback College and that team was Southern California champions and played for the National Championship in San Francisco. Kevin is part of a coaching family. His father is a high school freshman baseball coach and his oldest sister coached JV softball and girls basketball. Kevin is pursuing a degree in Sociology and plans on a career in law enforcement.
Dave Kraker: Freshmen Assistant
Coach Kraker in his 12th year coaching at CVHS and his 20th year of coaching freshman football overall. He attended Rolling Hills High School in Palos Verdes, CA where he earned All League Honors as a running back. He is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma. He has 3 perfect seasons under his belt with the freshmen team at Capo, and is excited to get that 4th! Coach Kraker has lived in Mission Viejo for the last 27 years with his wonderful wife Debbie. After working almost 40 years for Bekins Moving & Storage as a salesperson, Coach Kraker officially retired in 2014 and is enjoying life one day at a time. He also enjoys being a grandparent and teaching his granddaughters how to throw a football.

Evan Ponce: Freshmen Assistant
Evan Ponce is beginning his first year coaching football at Capistrano Valley and is very excited to be back with the cougar family. Evan was a graduate in the class of 2013 and captain of the Sea View League champions that brought back the winning tradition to Capo Football. Evan earned a 3-year varsity letter throughout his career playing offensive and defensive line and was second team all league his senior year in 2012. He also played two years of basketball and threw shot and disc during his tenure at Capistrano Valley. Recently, Evan just graduated from Humboldt State University with a Bachelor of Arts in History and is back living in the fruitful city of Mission Viejo. Evan is looking forward to teaching the freshman class the winning ways and traditions of Capo Football.
